Confronting Challenges in a Turbulent Market – insights from a leading recruitment firm in Dubai

Interview with – Louise Vine; CEO of Inspire Selection

Inspire Selection is a leading, award-winning recruitment agency in Dubai, employing highly knowledgeable, professional consultants who are experts in connecting the right people with the right opportunities.

Our reputation has been built on our honesty, integrity, and proven ability to source candidates of the highest calibre right across our specialist sectors for job vacancies in Dubai, the UAE, and the ME region. As a result, we are recruitment partners to a broad spectrum of organisations, from leading blue-chip companies to smaller, local businesses.

Our consultants are experienced, friendly, mature recruitment professionals who are passionate about placing the best candidate on the market. With over 150 years of combined experience in the recruitment industry, we genuinely understand our markets demand and have the established network of contacts needed to ensure our clients are in safe hands.

Voted as Recruitment Agency of the Year for four years running, at the UAE Business Awards by global industry experts, Inspire Selection continues to employ only the best, high calibre, expert recruiters in the country who develop long term relationships and offer proven recruitment solutions to our partners throughout the region.

The vast majority of our job vacancies are in the UAE and the Middle East, including HR, Admin, Finance & Accounting, Legal, Sales & Marketing, Education, Hospitality, IT, Oil/Gas/Energy, Engineering as well as Emiratisation.

We strive to deliver excellent customer service on both the candidate and client-side. Our continual positive testimonials and constant referrals to new clients and candidates prove we are doing something right!

Companies, employees, and job seekers have all experienced challenges in the business world because of the worldwide pandemic, and most affected of all have been jobs and salaries.  Research from GulfTalent.com saw a 50% reduction in the UAE’s recruitment activities from January to June 2020.

From the pandemic onset, we started to see open jobs go on hold or canceled, and the hiring processes on many roles standstill.  Whilst many open jobs started to receive huge amounts of applications from candidates entering the marketplace due to losing their jobs, we also saw that those in employment were rather reluctant to discuss new opportunities, understandably fearing leaving a secure job to join a new employer.

The UAE has also seen many expats leave and return to their home country.

We are pleased to say that Inspire Selection has been in a fortunate position to overcome these challenges and support our clients. Due to the way the business is set up, we have always enjoyed flexible work relating to the work location, lowering our overheads, and ensuring that we can ride out any storms. Our close relationships with both candidates and clients in our markets mean that we have been able to respond very quickly and efficiently now that clients are starting to hire again, with prompt qualified shortlists ready to present to hiring managers.

Global digital changes in the way the working world is operating have genuinely been in our favour. A move towards a ‘virtual-office’ with businesses adapting to new technology such as MS Teams and Zoom has allowed us to maintain communication with clients and candidates and schedule virtual interviews to ensure that the hiring process can continue.  We also enjoy more ‘virtual face to face’ conversations with our candidates than before, building even stronger relationships than a quick phone call.

There are innovations and tools within the recruitment industry, and while we embrace and are on top of technology, we believe that nothing replaces the human touch. Technology allows us to headhunt and reach out to candidates globally, thoroughly research and network within all industries, interview, and probe for potential candidates to present a qualified shortlist to our clients to meet their hiring needs. However, we do not solely depend on technological ‘tools’ which remove the human element from recruitment such as ‘computer-assisted’ interviews or screening technology which relies solely on key words – Every CV which passes our desks is assessed by an experienced consultant and every candidate put forward to a client on a shortlist is interviewed and probed in depth by our Consultants on a one-to-one basis.

In times of crisis, people flock to quality, but we believe that quality is what has always set us apart. By employing recruiters who genuinely are on ‘top of their game’, we can build long-lasting relationships with clients and candidates to connect the right people to vacancies efficiently and professionally time and time again.  We have a saying in recruitment – “You’re only as good as the last placement you made”.  As a boutique agency, we cannot afford to provide bad service. We do not rely on an international brand name to carry us through the tough times.  We rely on our solid reputation, and we are thankful to have reliable, trustworthy and high-calibre clients who continue to work closely with us whatever the weather.
