Bahrain Market of Management Consultancy during Covid-19 Pandemic

Interview with - Dr. Sadeq AlAbdulwahab; Principal Consultant of Management Doctor

Management Doctor Consultancy Center (MDCC) believes in a vision to develop leadership for corporate effectiveness.  MDCC provides leadership assessment, leadership development programs, and managerial solutions for corporate governance.

MDCC is working in the training sector. This sector was already affected because of financial rescission before the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, It is much affected because of restrictions on social distance. MDCC, like other consulting firms, has shifted to the virtual platform such as Zoom and Go-to-webinar. At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, we focused on providing free webinars to let people believe in our ability to provide similar consulting and training services online. Moreover, we worked to provide SMEs with business continuity reports for getting financial support from the Bahrain government.

We found that companies require a lot of training to improve remote business management. There are many new skills that managers and supervisors need to manage people remotely. However, most companies still hesitate to pay for training. Business management is going in a paradigm shift, where it requires an investment more in remote management development programs. Without that training, business quality will not be like before, and business operations will be on frequent shutdown.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr. Sadeq AlAbdulwahab (MDCC CEO) has created an online course about the transformational method of crisis strategy and leadership. This course has been launched through Udemy.com (an international platform of online courses). Dr. AlAbdulwahab also published a textbook on Amazon.com. The book title is Leadership Development Process: Triplex Process of Assessing, Training, and Empowering. This was our effort to make small change to produce a better return.

We believe that companies need to develop crisis leadership. Companies require to spent more budget on leadership assessment and crisis leadership training. Moreover, every company should have a business continuity and disaster recovery plan (BC-DR). The effective BC-DR strategy should stand on an emergent succession plan plus to executive succession plan. MDCC and its strategic partners are ready to provide those companies with both types of succession plan to make business continuity plan during this pandemic more effective.

Besides, we tested the market through Udemy.com and Amazon.com. Once our products through these platforms reveal that there is a good demand for online courses and text books of leadership development, we plan to launch more advanced online courses. Moreover, we have a new methodology of leadership assessment.  We intend to lunch this assessment as built in the online course as the first step in testing this assessment in the market.

The people must flock to quality all the time. MDCC is restricted by providing our services, building our strategic partnership, and choosing the competent consultants from our networking. However, I believe that companies should do process reengineering to keep the quality of products, production, and services. MDCC can provide the required training to learn the know-how of process reengineering during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Even MDCC should do process reengineering of some services. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, we were providing assessment centers through the traditional way of exercises. Exercises were conducted in a physical venue. Now, there are many restrictions on conducting an assessment center in the physical venue. Moreover, there is restriction on traveling to the location of venues. Although we are offering a virtual assessment center, some exercises cannot be done through the virtual center. Accordingly, some competencies cannot be examined. Therefore, we are working to develop new exercises such as virtual group discussion and look for new virtual simulators that may help exam all competencies virtually.

Finally, I believe that this crisis will have time and will end. However, the situation will have a strategic impact that will stay for a long time. Therefore, we need to look positively at any crisis and change ourselves toward more quality and innovation.
